Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Community Consultation and Research
Public
and private sector organisations increasingly have a need to consult
with local community groups. In many cases it is now a legal obligation
to solicit and consider the views of people who may be effected by
policy descisions, actions and
the delivery of the various services of the organisation.
Many public bodies are now outsourcing these consultation exercises
using organisations like Lamajo as independant intermediaries. Lamajo
has a wealth of skills and bring a different perspective to access public
opinion and deliver effective
consultation.
Lamajo Style
To be effective, consultation needs to be dynamic, always exploring new ways to reach those who do not traditionally take part in formal mechanisms of consultation. The Lamajo approach is to be well planned and prepared, with a clear, structured methodology tailored to each individual consultation exercise.Through beter communication and a more flexible approach we can:
- Research and develop databases of target groups for consultation.
- Prepare a clear and consise brief in preparation for the exercise
- Meet target groups at whatever place is convenient and comfortable for them
- Explore alternative methods of communication and consultation.
- Ensure that it is clear about who is consulting them and why
- Ensure that sufficient feedback takes place and respect confidentiality.
- Ensure that the consultation is well organised and planned to avoid duplication, repetition and unessesary demands upon peoples time
- Monitor and evaluate feedback so that progress and change can be measured.
- Provide results and feedback in an accessible format
- Encourage appropriate action to be taken and
promises kept
Importantly our approach is to develop longer-term contacts and partnerships through involvement, mutual trust and respect.
"South
Wales Magistrates' Courts Committee have been delighted with two major
research projects that Lamajo has carried out on Black and Minority
Ethnic (BME) consultation and participation strategy.
Lamajo has also worked alongside SWMCC for their Open Day to raise
awareness on employment opportunities and careers within SWMCC.We have
no hesitation in recommending Lamajo Education and Training Consultants"
